Description: This structure was heavily damaged by fire and required evaluation and repairs of critical structural members damaged from extreme heat. All air handling units were also heavily damaged from heat and smoke and required replacement. Fast design and implementation of repairs was necessary to get the business operating again.
All air handlers serving the building required replacement and due to the age of the existing units a complete orientation of the HVAC system was proposed and implemented. This required special structural units to support the units in the revised locations and was accomplished for the most part by utilizing a two part joist system. This system allowed the installation of additional joists without removal of roofing materials or decking.
Project Schedule: This project was a Fast-Track project where our engineers worked closely with both the owner and the contractor to develop repair drawings and specifications that could be easily accomplished in the field. Repairs were made with inspections completed on an on call basis with the restaurant fully operational in less than 120 days from the onset of the fire.
