Description: Description: This is a new facility for the U.S. Postal Service to serve the Petersburg and Grant County area of West Virginia. This 15,200 square foot building houses both customer service and mail distribution functions. Work by our firm included all A/E services, site work and contract administration. Construction on this project proceeded smoothly with only one change order needed to compensate the contractor for unknown site conditions.
Special Considerations: The Owner selected site had steep slopes which presented a challenge when fitting the building, parking, loading docks and circulation space onto this compact site. Approximately 900 feet of retaining walls ranging in height from a few feet to over twenty feet were required to accommodate the site. Studying alternative materials saved the owners $500,000 to $600,000 by utilizing a segmental retaining wall design.
Construction Cost: $3,200,000
Completion Date: July 1998
