Description: The replacement for Roach Truss Bridge carries two lane County Route 45 over the Guyandotte River in Cabell County, West Virginia. Design and Detail Plans were completed in Metric Units in 1998 with construction completed and the bridge placed in service in the spring of 2000.
Superstructure: The bridge framing is composed of a cast-in-place deck on 4 AASHTO type 4 Modified Prestressed Concrete Beams. The deck is 10,983 mm wide and 215 mm thick with concrete parapets.
Substructure: The bridge piers have hammerhead caps on solid concrete shafts supported by pile foundations. Abutments are integral with the slab, beams and approach slab, eliminating the need for expansion joints. Each integral abutment has attached cantilever wingwalls and is supported by a single row of steel HP bearing piles.
