Description: WISDOM is a television, radio and internet company headquartered in Bluefield, West Virginia.
This Quality Lifestyle company is relocating to this new facility currently under construction. WISDOM television is available on Dish Network and cable systems nationwide with the radio on Sirius Satellite Radio and on the internet.
Structural System: This is a 46,000 s.f. two-story steel framed structure. The roof system is framed with metal deck supported by steel bar joists. The second floor system consists of a concrete slab supported by metal deck and steel bar joists. The main floor is slab on grade. Conventional spread footings support steel columns. The exterior wall system consists of CMU veneer with steel stud backup. There are four stair towers constructed of CMU block walls.
Special Considerations: Due to architectural restraints, the main body of the building contains no shear walls or x-bracing. Moment frames were utilized in the north-south direction and special wind frames with partial moment resisting connections were used in the east-west direction.
Exterior strip windows required the CMU façade to be hung from the perimeter roof and floor structure. The entry is constructed using a proprietary class curtain wall system.
Construction Cost: $5,500,000
Completion Date: June 2002
